Painting this from life was a lot like painting a sunset from life... If I had it to do over, I would have made sure that ice cream was SUPER COLD and not barely frozen! It all happened so quickly...
Thanks for the comments Jennifer! This one turned out more stark or abstract than I had planned. I began to enjoy the overall shape though and went with it.
Well I do enjoy a challenge - but this was just a lack of foresight! This is much darker than I'm used to painting... I used black velvet material under the still life... it stays nice and dark - not reflecting much light.
I am a surfacing artist working for Dreamworks. In the past I've worked for Disney, Warner Bros., and Sony Imageworks doing Texture Painting/Look Development, and Matte Painting. Since graduating from the Art Center College of Design with a major in Illustration, I've been blessed to work steadily in the Animation Industry. I also greatly enjoyed painting landscapes, still lifes, and figurative works. Here I'm pleased to share my latest work as well share insights I've gained over the years.

Thank you Tim... You are easier on my that yourself - that's for sure!
Sumptuously alluring painting! Love the build up of texture and the moderate color palette.

I really like it. You obviously drew on your technical skills to react quickly and capture the moment. Those paintings are the best. Bravo!
Thanks Ed...
Working rapidly give a that great energetic feeling to a painting... or sometimes it gives you that "you weren't fast enough look"!!
Always love the challenge though...
Thanks again.
looks like you enjoy a challenge.
although quit abstract, the darkness makes it look like the old dutch masters, great feel to your work Eric
