Fechin and Leyendecker sketches...

I had a chance several weeks ago to visit the J.C. Leyendecker exhibit at the Fullerton Museum of Art. I was so impressed. That level of drawing skill is rare! I did a couple of sketches there at the museum. The large sketch is from a Fechin book I have.

Hi Eric,

Love the nude! Beautiful flesh tones and scrumptious brushstrokes.
BTW, I too saw the Leyendecker exhibition. Blew me away!

These are great, man. Like Jennifer said, beautiful flesh tones, and excellent color.

I saw the Leyendecker show last year in Stockton, plus I saw it again recently in Fullerton. Amazing, isn't he? I've been a J.C. Leyendecker fanatic for years, I've got a huge collection of his stuff, I even bought one of his paintings from Illustration House. Leyendecker's work has a gem-like quality about it, the brushwork is so elegant. And nobody can draw like that these days.

Hi Eric,

Beautiful nude, love that brushstroke on her thigh, it blows me away.
I have been a big fan and student of most of the early illustrators. They really knew how to draw and paint, they were masters. It is a shame illustrators do not get the respect as artists that they should. It bothered NC Wyeth all his life that he wasn't respected an easel painter. Glad to see you posting again

Hey Tony!

thanks for the kind words... Wow - you have a Leyendecker original?!! Very cool - must be very inspirational...

Drawing, drawing, drawing!

take care.

Hi Stephen,

thank you too - for the compliment. I loved the class at Art Center which we reviewed all the American master illustrators! They were so good - it's hard to define that blurry line of illustrator / fine artist.

Thanks for stopping by!
